2025 Annual Report

CPATA’s 2025 Annual Report was tabled in Parliament on May 1, 2026.

2025 marked the final year of CPATA’s 2023–2025 Strategic Framework, focused on strengthening its regulatory foundations and positioning the organization for long-term success as an independent public-interest regulator.

Key accomplishments included:

  1. Improved public access to agents through an enhanced Public Register, now searchable by location, area of practice, language of service and openness to taking on new clients.
  2. Advancing entry-to-practice by completing the competency framework with Board approval of the Professional Foundations Competency Profile, alongside consultations with trainees and supervisors aiming to develop supervised practice resources.
  3. Expanded ethics guidance for licensees through videos, articles, and webinars to support licensees in making nuanced decisions that align with their obligations under the Code of Professional Conduct.
  4. Action against widespread IP fraud by publicly identifying bad actors, educating the public, and collaborating with government, regulators, and law enforcement.

CPATA remains committed to regulatory excellence that strengthens public confidence and improves access to patent and trademark agent services across Canada.
