Licensee Survey

Why is CPATA conducting a survey of its licensees?

CPATA is committed to anchoring its regulatory policies and practices in concrete data, however, as a brand-new regulator, we have very little information about our licensees or their professional activities. While we did inherit some information from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office when we came into force, that data was not a robust portrait of the profession.

By conducting a survey of patent agents and trademark agents, we hope to better understand the nature of IP practice in Canada. This in turn will allow us to put in place regulatory mechanisms that are evidence-based and truly make sense for Canada’s IP environment.

This survey is an important opportunity for licensees to have their voices heard and to meaningfully contribute to the best interests of all IP stakeholders. A report from Abacus Data will be public on CPATA’s website later this fall.
